The latest excavations at the ancient Roman city of Pompeii have unearthed a number of interesting new discoveries. These include the almost intact remains of a “fast food” shop, a “sorcerer’s treasure trove” of artefacts etc,. But the most important and controversial discovery was that of a charcoal inscription on the wall of a room that appears to suggest that the volcanic eruption which destroyed the city occurred later than the date stated in history books. Will these books have to be re-written?
